Welcome to The Rustic Dietitian. We are so happy you have found us. This is a project that has been a long time in the making. As an Integrative Dietitian I have a keen understanding and desire to show people how they can optimize their health using time-tested dietary principles based on a Rustic philosophy. This philosophy is at the heart of our teaching. What does this word "Rustic" mean and how does it relate to your health?
A Rustic Diet is a simple whole foods diet that is not only healthy for you but incredibly delicious. It is based on time tested preparation techniques, seasonal availability of ingredients and cultural influences. In it’s simplest definition it’s a return to the kitchen and real food.
The diet itself consists of a colorful variety of plants with healthy oils, spices, lean proteins and high quality ingredients. It results in nourishing yourself and your family and friends with healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging foods.
Extending this philosophy beyond the kitchen to the dinner table and to the rest of your life, it means coming together with your community to share meals, to share laughter and to share social support.
It’s returning to a simpler, streamlined lifestyle with time for what matters most and less focus on what doesn’t. It’s finding joy, purpose and meaning in our lives and letting that nourish our soul. From this place we can find the space for true health and longevity.
Although at first this may sound idyllic and unrealistic in our modern-day fast-paced culture I would argue that it isn’t. Quite the contrary. Not only is it attainable, it is desperately needed for the health of ourselves, our families, our communities and our planet.
