I love food! I love using food as my primary medicine! Most of all, I love showing others how they can use real food to regain their health. I believe in the power of food to heal and I’ve seen first-hand how returning to a simple, real food diet can restore health. I’m a working mom with 2 beautiful girls and I know just how hard it can be to balance work, self-care, and motherhood. I created the Rustic Dietitian as a tool for teaching others the strategies I discovered along my nutrition journey. I have found that returning to a simpler, wholesome way of eating and living is the key to improved health.
My experience includes over 15 years working in Health Education, Wellness, and Nutrition. In addition to completing degrees in Physiology and Dietetics and meeting the requirements to become a Registered Dietitian I also have certifications in Holistic Nutrition, Traditional Western Herbal Therapies, and Oncology Nutrition. This combination of training is special because I can uniquely use my training in medical nutrition therapy with my training in health coaching and integrative medicine to cover all options with my clients. I love thinking outside the box and finding a creative solution to whatever challenge faces my client.
I’ve had the privilege of working at the University of California San Francisco Osher Center for Integrative Medicine both as an Integrative Dietitian and Research Associate. I’ve also spent many years working at Kaiser Permanente as an Outpatient Dietitian and Health Educator.
I was born and raised in California and LOVE everything outdoors. My family and I enjoy hiking our local trails or heading to the beach to kayak or surf. I find a good swim or yoga class can fill my cup. For the last year my family and I have been living abroad in the French Alps. Still getting to enjoy the breath-taking outdoors but also enjoying a French culinary adventure, including raising chickens and enjoying fresh eggs. Practicing my version of a “Rustic” life.
My primary goal in creating The Rustic Dietitian is to provide others with a reliable and trust-worthy resource for up-to-date and relevant information on integrative and functional nutrition. Through recipes, tips, and time-saving ideas I look forward to sharing just how easy it can be to create the long, healthy and joyful life you crave for both you and your family.
At the heart of The Rustic Dietitian are the pillars of:
By combining these three pillars we can more easily achieve optimal health and vitality. And to make it user-friendly I've translated these pillars into what I call “The Rustic Diet and Lifestyle”.
The Rustic Diet is a simple whole foods diet that is not only healthy for you but incredibly delicious. It is based on time tested preparation techniques, seasonal availability of ingredients and cultural influences. In its simplest definition, it’s a return to the kitchen and real food.
The diet includes a colorful variety of plants with healthy oils, spices, lean proteins and high quality ingredients. It results in nourishing yourself and your family and friends with healing, anti-inflammatory, anti-aging foods. Extending this philosophy beyond the kitchen to the dinner table and to the rest of your life, it means coming together with your community to share meals, to share laughter and to share social support.
It’s returning to a simpler, streamlined lifestyle with time for what matters most and less focus on what doesn’t. It’s finding joy, purpose, and meaning in our lives and letting that nourish our soul. From this place we can find the space for true health and longevity.
Although at first this may sound idyllic and unrealistic in our modern-day fast-paced culture I would argue that it isn’t. Quite the contrary. Not only is it attainable, it is desperately needed for our health, our families, our communities and our planet.
Join our community and let me show you just how easy it can be to achieve your "Rustic" Life.
